Rising gospel star, Jovonta Patton, made waves in the Gospel Music Industry this week as he hit the top spot on the Billboard Gospel Digital Sales Chart with his brand new single, “Way Maker”. The worship ballad earned over 42,000 streams in its first week, an incredible feat for an independent artist.
Written by the multi-award winning Nigerian singer-songwriter, Sinach, “Way Maker” reminds listeners of the true power of God with its easy melody and poignant melodic lyrics. It’s sweeping churches and praise teams across the nation. “I’m truly blown away by the support,” Patton says. ” I hope to continue to reach people where they are with this message that God is the ultimate Way Maker.” Patton recently serenaded Motown music legend, Stevie Wonder, during a special birthday event for Pastor Jerry McAfee, another career highlight.
Patton is a Twin Cities, Minnesota native who has been creating and performing music for as long as he can remember. He’s also a local radio personality, his program, ‘Praise with Jovonta Patton,’ can be heard on the weekends on 89.9 FM at 6AM CST. Patton’s second album, Finally Living, struck the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Gospel Albums Sales Chart in 2016. He is scheduled to release his sophomore set, The Best Me, this summer on all digital service providers.
