A “Gospel Christmas” To Highlight Malaria Christmas Appeal

This Christmas, Christian Aid will host a Gospel Christmas evening at City Temple in Holborn, to support the organisation’s Christmas Appeal, which could save people from the devastating effects of malaria in Nigeria.
The event, on Saturday 12th December, will feature performances from leading gospel music artists such as multi-award winners and Mobo Award nominees, John Fisher and IDMC Gospel Choir, and Songs of Praise finalists (2015) ‘The BIG Sing Gospel Voices’. Cutting edge poetry by Mide and traditional Christmas readings will also flavour this lively evening of celebration. In the run up to Christmas, this promises to be a very enjoyable festive event.

The UK Government will match every pound raised on the evening for Christian Aid’s Christmas Appeal, which will double the amount donated and help save more lives.
Worldwide a child dies of malaria every 60 seconds. Malaria cases in Nigeria, in West Africa, account for a quarter of all malaria cases across the continent, killing an estimated 250,000 children under the age of five every year.
Women with malaria are particularly vulnerable, as they have a higher risk of miscarriage, premature delivery, stillbirth, severe anaemia and delivering babies with low-birth weight – a leading cause of child mortality. Malaria also accounts for 11% of all maternal deaths in Nigeria, and as pregnancy reduces a woman’s immunity to malaria, a pregnant woman is three times more likely to suffer from serious disease as a result of malaria infection than a non-pregnant woman.
So as we celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus lets also give the gift of life to thousands of women and children in Nigeria.
