It’s time to change the world

The Evangelical Alliance has released a new small group course to help Christians put their faith into action.

The Change the World course is part of the Alliance’s Public Leadership work which seeks to encourage Christians to take on leadership across society and work for the good of all.

The course provides a clear biblical basis for taking on leadership in public life, and equips Christians to be a voice for change in the world around them.

Dave Landrum, director of advocacy at the Evangelical Alliance, said: “We have a crisis of leadership in our society and we need Christians to step up and take on leadership in every part of society.

“Changing the world may seem like an impossible task. If we don’t have a high profile role we may think we don’t have the influence or authority necessary to make change. But if we understand the places where we are called to lead, and the authority God has given us, we can all play a role in changing the part of the world that we inhabit.”

The four week course includes teaching videos from the Alliance’s Northern Ireland director, Peter Lynas, Pastor Celia Apeagyei-Collins, Saltbox chief executive Lloyd Cooke, and business consultant Ruth Walker.

Landrum went on to say: “In the workplace, the neighbourhood, a local campaign or community group, wherever we spend our time and passion is an opportunity for us to lead change. As more and more people commit to public leadership, the change we each make ripples out to affect the world.”

Ian Mayer, a businessman and church leader, commented on the course: “It’s a fact that everything rises or falls on leadership. Whether in a small organisation, or an entire city, leadership sets the culture. This powerful resource is ideal in helping birth new leaders so we can make the biggest impact in our places.”

Change the World looks at our motivation to bring about change, the authority we need for change, the vital role of leaders in bringing about change, and the role of the Church in developing public leaders.

Tracy Cotterall, managing director of LICC and a member of the Alliance’s board, said: “Growing people of influence for today’s complex world is a vital responsibility of the body of Christ. These are exciting times to be wrestling with the challenge and this resource will help us all rise to it more wisely.”

The course comes with a leader’s booklet, downloadable videos and guides for each session, all available at: thepublicleader.com/changetheworld
