60:40 Youth Project: Empowering Young People in the Heart of Lambeth

The Ascension Trust is seeking individuals to invest a year of their lives at one of our new initiatives: the 60/40 Youth Project. The project is focused on empowering young people in Lambeth to see, reach and achieve their full potential throughout the various stages of their lives.

The gap year programme is designed to provide individuals with the opportunity to develop their leadership skills; utilise their individual gifts, and gain experience working with inner city young people in a ministry environment.

The 60/40 Project is an initiative of the Ascension Trust in partnership with the Methodist Church and London City Mission. It has been established to care for, equip and empower young people in Lambeth. The 60/40 Project is focused on the wellbeing of young people and their families.

In Lambeth there is great culture, entertainment and history to be discovered. However, many young people who reside in the area are living in emotionally, spiritually and psychologically deprived environments. Serious youth violence has increased since 2014; child sexual exploitation is also at an unexpected high within Lambeth. The Ascension Trust, the Methodist Church and London City Mission have recognised the need in this area, and believe the issue requires collaborative input from significant organisations to bring about change.

The gap year is for those eager to gain practical ministry experience, who are teachable, willing to learn and be stretched; individuals, who are committed Christians, and are passionate about seeing churches influence the societies they reside in.

The successful candidates will receive experience and exposure working with young people in a variety of settings, and the following:

  • Excellent training in practical evangelism, from the skilled team at London City Mission
  • Scope to dream, design and develop initiatives for young people
  • Leadership training from seasoned individuals with a breadth of expertise
  • Accommodation
  • Mentoring from the experienced Ascension Trust team

The cost of the gap year is £4,000 and includes accommodation for the duration of the gap year, training in evangelism and leadership, and the cost of materials and events.

If you would like to gain practical experience working with young people in the heart of London, contact the Ascension Trust for an application pack by emailing: 60_40@ascensiontrust.org.uk, by calling 020 7737 6852, or visit www.ascensiontrust.org.uk
