Christians invited to experience Handel’s ‘Messiah’ as never before

An unmissable Easter event for church groups is coming to cinemas for one night only on 28th March. This special dramatised production of Handel’s Messiah from Bristol Old Vic has already had rave reviews from critics, and moved theatre audiences to tears. Tickets are available now.

People might think they know Messiah, but they will never have seen it like this.

The drama and emotion of Handel’s music are at the heart. ‘This piece of music is very familiar to lots of people,’ says producer Alison Hargreaves.  ‘But our production had enabled people to make sense of the story and music in a way they hadn’t before.’

Damaris Media spoke to Tom Morris OBE, the Tony Award-winning director behind Messiah, as part of a behind-the-scenes blog series. In the interview he reflects on the ‘simple human core’ of the Easter story, and exploring the paradoxes of faith.

‘Some people of faith have found very powerful meaning in this production,’ he says. ‘I’m really interested in overhearing the conversations this sparks.’
