Last week saw the London launch of the Little Worship Company from Wonderborn Studios, which offers a range of world-class Christian children’s media products (app, DVDs, books and curriculum), designed to inspire and delight children aged 0- 7 years while helping families worship and discover God together.
More information about the project can be found at: https://littleworshipcompany.com/.
The team behind the Little Worship Company is hugely experienced – between them, they have worked for or with CBeebies, CBeebies Interactive, CBBC, Disney Online Studios EMA, Egmont Digital Publishing, Alpha International, and British Youth for Christ, among others. The Bible and teaching content is being developed in association with Wycliffe and a specialist advisory team of consultants, which include Kay Benbow, former CBeebies controller. See https://wonderbornstudios.com/about-us for more details.
In the last 15 years, only 10 Christian television programmes have been made specifically for children, compared with over 250 non-Christian television programmes made for children in the last year alone. This is in a context where children’s media consumption from a young age is increasing year by year: 69% of 3-4 year olds now use a tablet and 37% have their own. By the time they are 18, they will have spent 35,000 hours on media – this compares with 9,000 hours in school and 2,500 hours interacting with parents. Understandably parents are keen for their children to be watching quality, age-appropriate content which will benefit them in some way (educating them, expanding their mind, teaching motor skills, etc) where possible.
The Little Worship Company has a 6-point mission statement:
· To produce brilliant, inspiring media
· To help children discover God
· To be the CBeebies of the faith community
· To create a global audience of faith-filled little humans
· To offer media that encourages mindfulness, well-being and spiritual connectedness
· To forge in infants an understanding of their identity as God’s precious children
The elements of Little Worship Company include a subscription app, a website, a You Tube channel, DVDs, social media channels on Instagram and Facebook, and more. The focus is on ‘discovering God together’, and the various platforms include extra resources and materials for adults to help them to explore these areas with the children in their care, whether as a parent, a Sunday school teacher, a teacher, a grandparent, a godparent or in another role.
