Christians of Extinction Rebellion to Launch Book Online with Ruth Valerio
The Christians of Extinction Rebellion, known as Christian Climate Action (CCA), are celebrating the publication of their new book, Time to Act, with an online launch and everyone is welcome to join! Time to Act is a practical resource book which sets out the moral and religious case for joining the struggle against the climate emergency. More than 30 people have contributed to it, many providing accounts of their involvement in non-violent direct action protests such as Extinction Rebellion protests and the school strikes.
The launch will take place on Friday 8th May, 7pm-8:30pm, via Zoom. Those joining include:
- Jeremy Williams, Editor of Time to Act
- Ruth Valerio, Environmentalist, Theologian and Global Advocacy and Influencing Director at Tearfund
- A number of CCA members who have contributed to the book
There will be readings from the book, time spent in smaller breakout groups with various contributors to the book, and a Q&A panel with Jeremy Williams, Ruth Valerio and Holly-Anna Petersen, a CCA member and a contributor to the book.
Holly-Anna Petersen said:
‘We have put our blood, sweat and tears into this book because we hope and pray that it will awaken the Church and lead to the Christian climate movement the world so dearly needs. To bring a bit of excitement to these difficult days we thought we’d hold a virtual book launch! It will be an informal event – we’re asking people to bring their own drinks and snacks and have a good old time with some nourishing conversation.’
Caroline Harmon, another CCA member, said:
‘We had planned to hold book launch events at Christian and independent bookshops, and churches, across the UK, but lockdown has obviously made that impossible. We wanted to celebrate anyway and this event is open to anyone, regardless of whether they have read the book. We reckon the only aspect of a normal book launch we can’t do is sign the book!’
