Competition aimed at Christian charities and Churches is launched

Stories of hope, faith and impact are resonating more than ever with the media since coronavirus hit – that’s the message from the heads of PR agency Jersey Road PR as the business announces a new competition offer today, of a year’s worth of free PR support for a nominated Christian charity or church.

Jersey Road PR’s Big Birthday Giveaway is being launched to mark the 10-year anniversary of the agency, which for the past decade has sought to tell the positive, newsworthy and powerful stories of the Church in the media, by working with Christian charities, churches or organisations in the UK.

One of Jersey Road’s founders, Managing Director Gareth Russell says,

“In this year of disruption, uncertainty and fear, people need more than ever to hear stories of hope and peace, and this has been reflected in an increase of positive mainstream media coverage of Christianity during the pandemic. Many small Christian organisations have struggled for the past few months because of COVID-19; and for many, being in a position to stretch finances to enlist PR support ordinarily would be a stretch too far, that is one of the key reasons we’re launching this competition.”

The giveaway will be awarded to a UK-based Christian charity or church with an income of less than £250,000, who is having a transformational impact on the community it serves. The agency hope it will be a great opportunity to raise the winner’s profile, highlighting the good work it does within the media.

Andi Russell, co-founder and Training and Development Director says,

“We’ve seen national headlines about huge numbers of people watching church online or turning to prayer in response to coronavirus, and about the church in action serving the lonely and vulnerable around the country. The UK needs hope, the Church is providing it and journalists are noticing.

She continues,

“As an organisation, we’re passionate about telling the positive stories of the Church. What better way to celebrate having done this for 10 years as an agency working with some incredible organisations, than to help another great charity or church share its story and what better time to do it than now? We’re encouraging everyone to nominate a small Christian charity or church they think most deserves its story to be told and who may also need a bit of help with their communications during these uncertain times.”

The deadline for applications is August 14th 2020; after which a shortlist of five charities will be selected and then put to a public vote as well as judged by a panel consisting of Gavin Calver, CEO of Evangelical Alliance, Chine MacDonald, Head of Community Fundraising & Public Engagement at Christian Aid, Debra Green OBE, National Director and Founder of ROC UK among others; with the successful organisation being announced by mid-October 2020.

Jersey Road PR started in 2010 in Milton Keynes, when Gareth and Andi Russell realised there was a need to reframe how the Church was being positioned in the media. With backgrounds in PR, media, marketing and publishing, the Russells built a team that works closely with clients to ensure that every aspect of their communications reaches more people in the UK and has greater impact by effectively and strategically engaging with the media. During its tenure Jersey Road has grown its business and now has clients in the UK, US and Australia.
