Christian international children’s charity Global Care is looking for walkers to take on an ambitious challenge in aid of Spurgeon’s Academy – a school it supports in Kibera, Kenya.
‘50 miles in 30 days’ is a simple idea – walk 50 miles from 2-31January 2021, record your miles, share your photos on social media and raise money for vulnerable children living in Kenya. Participants can walk every day, just at weekends, or anything in between – just keep track of the distance covered, and aim to complete 50 miles by the end of January.
The idea is to see as many people as possible walking all over the country to get fit, have fun and support Global Care. It costs just £30 to register, and participants all receive an information pack and a cosy beanie hat to keep them warm on their January walks! Extra challenges will be set as the weeks go by, to add to the fun for the walkers. Additional fundraising is encouraged, but not required.
Global Care’s CEO John White says,
“This year’s walking challenge will raise valuable funds for children in Kenya. As a result of the pandemic, we need to build some temporary classrooms for the students and fast, so they can return to school in a safe environment. Education is the most important factor in breaking the poverty cycle in the long term – please help us to get them back into school and give them the chance of a better future. £30 is a relatively small amount and yet it will make a huge difference to the future of these children.”
Global Care is hoping that this initiative will raise £5000 – enough to build two temporary classrooms, so children living in the Kibera Slum can start to catch up on the valuable education they have missed.
Global Care was set up in Coventry more than 35 years ago and is currently working in 16 countries across four continents. The charity aims to support the poorest and most vulnerable children, through education; vocational training, feeding and welfare care.
