Shaun Bailey, Conservative London Mayoral Candidate has issued a rallying call to faith communities to fight misinformation, get vaccinated and give the country a fresh start.
It has been reported that the vaccine take up amongst BAME communities is low, much of this is owed to misinformation being circulated via social media.
Shaun Bailey is calling on the government to utilise places of worship, including synagogues, churches, mosques, gurdwaras and temples to become vaccination centres and help fight the misinformation about the vaccine.
Shaun Bailey, Conservative London Mayoral Candidate, said:
“The battle against Covid has been tough. But we’ve finally got a weapon we can use to fight back: the vaccine.
This is a relief for my mum. Not only is she at risk because of her job in the NHS — she’s also at risk because of her race. BAME people can be twice as likely to catch Covid as white people.
So I’m thrilled my mum got her first jab this week. I want to encourage more BAME people to follow in her footsteps. And the Jewish community can play a key role.
By opening up places of worship as vaccination centres, the BAME community can lead the way in helping to fight misinformation, get people vaccinated, and give the country a fresh start.”
