Enjoy excellent respite care with Pilgrims’ Friend Society

At Pilgrims’ Friend Society we provide excellent care for older people in a Christian environment. We’re currently offering a special deal on respite breaks across our ten care homes in England – come for a three-week short-term stay and pay for just two weeks.

After being knocked back by an illness or an operation, you may need a bit of extra care. It may not be the time to move into new accommodation permanently, but while you recover, you can enjoy the benefits and facilities available to older people living in our homes.

We also offer respite care to enable carers to take a well-earned break. If you’re a carer, you can spend some time looking after your own needs safe in the knowledge that your loved one is being very well looked after.

“I was absolutely astounded by the care and compassion of the carers and also of the other residents. I have visited many care homes and I had no idea that care of this standard was actually possible in our society. The ethos of this home is amazing.”

– Wendy who arranged a respite break for her friend’s mother at Florence House, our home in Peterborough.

All our residential care homes are rated Good by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We provide a comfortable bedroom, nutritious food and take care of all house-keeping needs. We also offer support with personal care and care for those living with dementia. All our managers are Christian, offering not just professional skills but spiritual and pastoral support, too.

We understand that it’s the personal details that make a difference. As much as possible, we get to know you before you arrive and find out your plans, support needs, interests, preferences, and daily routines.

You’ll have your own bedroom, which you’re free to personalise with photographs and ornaments from home, to help create a familiar environment.

Whatever your situation, the special Christian environment at all our homes might be just what you need. Devotional times take place daily with Bible readings, short talks, prayers and hymns. Each of our homes also offers fun activities. For example, Emmaus House, Harrogate recently enjoyed a visit from two lionhead baby rabbits, Evington Home, Leicester have been busy baking their favourite chocolate nest cupcakes while Luff House have been exploring an interactive table which lets them swim with fishes, play the xylophone, and even crack a few eggs!

One lady who has benefited from a respite break with us is Olive. She was living with her son and his family who’d decided to have an extension built to better accommodate her at their home. While the building work was being done, Olive came for three weeks respite at our Shottermill House in July 2019. She really enjoyed getting to know everyone at the home, joining in with the devotions time and taking part in afternoon activities such as quizzes and cinema afternoons. In the beautiful summer weather, she loved sitting out on the patio, enjoying the sun and the views of the garden.

At the end of the three weeks, Olive turned to her son and said,

“If I go home I’ll miss all my new friends and all the activities. I’d like to stay here instead.”
