Tearfund Appoints New Board Member And Chair Of The Well

The Board of Tearfund, the international Christian charity, has announced the appointment of Pastor Yemi Odusolu as a new Board member and Chair of The Well Board Committee, which guides Tearfund’s work with Black Majority Churches.

Born in Camberwell, London, Pastor Yemi is a former banker with a Bachelor’s degree in Science and a Master’s in Business Administration, with his career spanning Europe and Nigeria. He is currently the Lead Pastor at Trinity Chapel, a parish of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), and based in Beckton, East London.

Alongside Pastor Yemi’s role on Tearfund’s Board, he will be the Chair of The Well Committee. The Well launched in November 2021 in partnership with Tearfund and with a vision to collaborate with Black Christians and Black Majority Churches. This Board Committee will bring voices from Black Majority churches into leadership spaces within Tearfund.

Anna Laszlo, Chair of Tearfund’s Board said, “I am delighted that Pastor Yemi has agreed to join the Board.  With a career spanning Europe and Nigeria, he has seen places where widespread poverty exists in the midst of plenty. His expertise in leading churches and building up their strategic view of both the challenges and opportunities they face is something that will bring added richness into our Board and Committee discussions.  . The Board recognises it needs more diverse voices from across the Church, and Pastor Yemi’s appointment is one of the steps we are taking to seek change.”

Pastor Yemi said,

I am drawn to Tearfund as an organisation which, like me, seeks an inclusive relationship between White Majority and Black Majority churches, finding unity on issues of global extreme poverty, injustice, and inequality around the world. The Well Committee has many opportunities and challenges ahead and I look forward keenly to what God has in store for us.

Nigel Harris, Tearfund CEO said, “I am excited to welcome Pastor Yemi as a new member of the Board and Chair of The Well Committee. With The Well, we are committed to continuing to strengthen our relationships with Black Majority Church leaders and this Board Committee will be part of that vision to have Black Christians more involved in Tearfund’s plans and communications.”
