Op-Note: Churches across the UK and Ireland united in prayer for Ukraine

This weekend, churches and Christians from across the UK and Ireland will come together in an act of witness to pray for the people of Ukraine and for an end to the conflict. Photo and media opportunities are: 

Saturday 2 April

What? Christian Aid will be projecting a graphic of the Ukrainian flag with the message of uniting in prayer for Ukraine on Westminster Abbey and the Methodist Central Hall.

When? Saturday 2 April, 20:20 – 20:50 onto Westminster Abbey and 20:50 to 21:20 on Methodist Central Hall.

Where? Westminster Abbey and Methodist Central Hall (front of buildings). 

Sunday 3 April

What? Church leaders will lead a large crowd in an act of witness outside the Ukrainian embassy in London. The act of witness will include speeches from the church leaders (see below) and displaying hearts and banners in the colours of the Ukrainian flag with the message of uniting in prayer for Ukraine.

Church leaders attending: 

  • John Sentamu, former Archbishop of York and Christian Aid Chair
  • Kenneth Nowakowski, the bishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Holy Family of London.
  • Archbishop Nikitas, the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Great Britain
  • Joanne Grenfell, the Bishop of Stepney

When? Sunday 3 April, 13:30 for a 14:00 start. 

Where? Embassy of Ukraine, 60 Holland Park, London,  W11 3SJ.
