New Song Raises Awareness of Sickle Cell Disease

It is rare to hear a song written to raise awareness of Sickle Cell Disease. For singer-songwriter Voké, what better time than celebrating world sickle cell day than to create “Trust In You”, a song inspired by her brother and sister, who are both afflicted by this challenging condition.

Motivated by a desire to commemorate her brother’s 40th birthday in 2022 and empathise with the struggles he endured throughout his life, Voké embarked on a mission to articulate the profound experiences of Sickle Cell sufferers.

Collaborating with Bankboy London ( Voké’s brother), esteemed producer and songwriter Nate Johnson,  as well as the talented Letitia B, with whom a serendipitous connection was forged during a songwriting retreat in Nashville ( courtesy of funding by the Arts Council England), they poured their collective creative energy into crafting a poignant anthem.

Drawing upon the raw emotions and untold stories of individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease, “Trust In You” illuminates the physical and emotional pain endured by these resilient souls, while also highlighting their encounters with the medical professionals entrusted with their care.

“Trust In You” serves as a platform for raising awareness and advocating for improved treatment, demonstrating the significance of love, understanding, and empathy in the face of relentless pain.

Ayo Adedoyin, the Head of Community Action at Jesus House London said; “Trust in You” by Voké is a powerful gospel song that beautifully intertwines faith, hope, and the reality of living with sickle cell. With its heartfelt lyrics and soulful melodies, this song resonates deeply, touching the hearts of listeners and fostering a sense of encouragement and trust in God’s unfailing love.

The lyrics of “Trust in You” are deeply poignant and carry a profound message of unwavering trust in God, even in the face of pain and adversity.”

Bankboy has this to say:

Being seen as a sickle cell sufferer means being acknowledged by medical professionals as someone with real struggles so that sicklers can receive fair and adequate care, treatment, and support for this debilitating condition.

“Trust In You” is poised to become a catalyst for dialogue surrounding Sickle Cell Disease, offering solace and camaraderie to those who battle this condition daily. As the song reverberates through the airwaves, it beckons listeners to empathise, learn, and lend their support to this often overlooked community.’Trust In You’ is now available for download here:
