NTCG Brixton District Announces First Faith & Mental Health Conference for Children and Young People
NTCG Brixton District is proud to announce its inaugural Faith & Mental Health Conference, focusing on children and young people. This is an in-person event, to be held at NTCG Brixton Community Church, and an opportunity for parents, carers, family members, local communities, and mental health practitioners, to expand awareness and learn about the benefits of Faith & Mental wellbeing, in the lives of children and young people.
The conference, hosted by Bishop Barrington A Mullings Cert CBT, BA Hon, MASW MA Th., District Overseer for the NTCG Brixton District, will take place from Friday, March 14 to Saturday, March 15, 2025, with the event concluding on Sunday, March 16, with a family worship service, which will also feature a speaker on faith and mental health. The conference is being hosted in partnership with I AM IN ME youth charity, founded by Sasha Gay Smith.
Keynote Speaker & Notable Speakers
The conference will feature keynote speaker Professor Dawn Edge, Academic Lead for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion at the University of Manchester, who will provide insightful perspectives on mental health and its intersection with faith. Additional expert speakers include Minister Juney Mohammad, Mental Health Speaker, PH MSc, and Dr. Francis Labinjo, NHS Consultant Psychiatrist (MBBS, DCP).
Key Themes for the Conference
- Day 1: Mental Health Taboos what are they?
This session will explore common stigmas surrounding mental health and provide tools to break down barriers. - Day 2: A Full Day of Essential Topics
o Exploring Anxiety and Depression: Understanding the impact of mental health issues on children and young people.
o Suicide & Wellbeing Amongst Children & Young People: A critical conversation on mental health challenges and prevention strategies.
o How to Build Mental Health Resilience with Faith: Insights on nurturing resilience through faith and mental health support.
Faith in God is a most effective strategy for successfully combatting mental challenges such as anxiety and depression. Although belief in God is vilified as anti-Scientific and therefore unproductive to humankind in certain quarters, research evidence promotes a different and positive picture. As such, I am happy to be numbered amongst those who unashamedly promote the benefits that individuals experiencing anxiety and depression, and the valued people who support them in families and institutions can receive through prayer, the study of God’s Word and the engaging fellowship that disciples of Christ provide in church settings and
