New exhibition explores Black worship

Cultural producer, historian and Christian, Sewa Olukoga, is getting ready for the opening of her two-day multi-disciplinary exhibition UNDIGNIFIED, which explores Black praise and worship.

Through archival research, photography and visual installations, the exhibition examines the beliefs, biblical principles and histories that have shaped worship in Africa, the Caribbean and the diaspora.

The exhibition, sponsored by Keep The Faith, takes place on 19–20 June at Old Street Gallery, 3 Leonard Circus, London EC2A 4NA. It will feature images taken in Black-majority churches. 

Sewa told Keep The Faith:

“I curated this exhibition, mainly in obedience to God but also to give language to the topic of race, faith and expression in the Western Church, which is often taboo. I hope people walk away with an understanding that diversity isn’t a bad thing.”
