BHM event celebrates music and faith of Windrush generation
Church, music and worship helped to sustain Caribbean migrants during their early years of settlement in Britain during the 50s and 60s.
In recognition of this, a series of special Black History Month events entitled The Front Room Experience: Church will take place from October 22–25 in Croydon.
Written by Dave Prince and Sam Facey, and directed by Ray Shell, The Front Room Experience: Church brings together storytelling, live gospel music, faith, humour and community. Artists taking part include Jason Nicholson-Porter.
“Church is about more than what happened on a Sunday,” Dave Prince explained. “The Front Room was a place where our culture, our music, our faith and our sense of community came together. We want audiences to step into that room, experience something of that generation and recognise how much of what they created still lives with us today.”
