COGIC UK installs new national leader
Clergy, church members and well-wishers attended the installation service of Bishop Geoff Folkes as the new leader of the Church of God in Christ UK (COGIC UK), which was held at its headquarters in Luton.
Ministers in attendance included Bishops John Francis, Claion Grandison, Eric Brown, Delroy Powell and Mike Royal.
Bishop Brandon B Porter, Secretary of the General Board of Church of God in Christ US conducted the installation part of the service and also preached the sermon.
Following his installation, Bishop Folkes told the congregation that God had been good and shared how he had felt in the weeks leading up to the service. He said: “People have been saying ‘Geoff, are you excited?’ but I couldn’t say I was, because I know what this office is and the weight it brings. But what encouraged me was that people came and said: ‘I’ve been praying for you. Our church has been praying for you.’ That gave me strength to know that the people of God are with me.”
Bishop Folkes now presides over a denomination that has 20 congregations and 1,500 members (excluding children) across the UK. His vision includes strengthening current leaders, developing future leaders, nurturing the youth, equipping and empowering families and planting churches.
