Leading figures and celebrities recently gathered at the AT&T Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas, to celebrate Bishop TD Jakes’ 35th year in public ministry.
A host of individuals, including former US President Bill Clinton and Oprah Winfrey, paid tribute to the Bishop, often cited as one of the world’s most influential Black church leaders.
Entertainment mogul, Tyler Perry, and CNN anchor, Soledad O’Brien, were the hosts for the event, and people who participated in the black-tie gala event included Mary Mary, Israel Houghton, Chaka Khan, Pastor Shirley Caesar, Fred Hammond, Israel Houghton, Karen Clark Sheard, and jazz musicians Keiko Matsui and Kirk Whalum.
The tributes and performances obviously struck the right chord, because Bishop Jakes told the gathered crowd, “It’s hard to overwhelm me, but you’ve done it to me this time. I’ve never had a night as amazing as this one.”
