A charity working with adoptive families and vulnerable women and children is asking people to take on an activity challenge this spring in support of its work.
Parents And Children Together (PACT) wants people to commit to exercising for 31 days for its Move Every Day in May challenge.
Participants can complete the 31-day challenge with a mix and match daily activity, at a time that suits them and either individually or as a group. In last year’s challenge, a participant hula-hooped their way through May and one family used a mixture of online fitness programmes and walking to enjoy the springtime.
All the proceeds will be used to help to build and strengthen families through PACT’s adoption and adoption support services and its vital community projects Alana House and Bounce Back 4 Kids. Last year PACT found permanent and loving families for 84 children waiting for adoption while Alana House community project worked with approximately 169 women with multiple disadvantages. The Bounce Back 4 Kids programme supported 48 children aged five to 11 who have been affected by domestic abuse.
One of the participants of last year’s challenge said it was a “Thoroughly enjoyable challenge and for a great cause!”
Another participant said: “I loved the challenges with my son and we are going to continue doing it till he figures out it is over!”
Having joined the supporting Move Every Day in May Facebook group another person who completed the month with a spot of sheep shearing said: “Loved it and the encouragement from others.”
The impact of PACT’s community projects is reflected in the words of women who access the Alana House services:
“Coming to Alana House has made me feel safer, and that I am not alone. I know I am on a positive path now because of the support I have, which I have never had before.”
While adopters completing their families through adoption regularly feedback the difference PACT has made to their lives.
“My husband and I are so grateful to you for all you have done. Without you, we would not have found our beautiful son.”
Natausha van Vliet, Chief Executive of PACT, said:
“I am incredibly proud of the outcomes achieved by everyone involved with PACT. PACT creates tangible, positive and lasting opportunities for children and families that are for life.
“It is very much a team effort and the Move Every Day in May challenge is an example of how taking action together, perhaps in smaller ways, every day, can make a big difference.
“I am excited to see what inventive ways people will find to meet the challenge this year. My dog Dudley and I will certainly be taking part again.”
To register for Move Every Day in May costs £15 but participants may choose to raise sponsorship from friends and family. Children can take part for free along with a registered adult and only pay for a lovely medal (£2.50). All participants will receive a certificate and medal.
PACT’s Fundraising Manager Lina Artunduaga said:
“The Move Every Day in May challenge is fast becoming an annual event for PACT supporters. It is a real celebration of what we can do, both physically for ourselves and also together to support the people in our communities that need it the most.
“This is so much fun and I really enjoy seeing people’s pictures of their efforts and hearing how much people get from joining this challenge as well as seeing the difference this support can make.”
