Adoption Counts

Adoption is a big decision. But it could be the best you ever make.

At Adoption Counts, the Regional Adoption Agency covering the Local Authorities of Manchester, Cheshire East, Salford, Stockport, and Trafford, we are currently appealing to the Black community to come forward and consider adoption. Children of a Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic background, especially Black African and Black Caribbean children, and children with a dual or mixed-heritage, often wait longer to be adopted, alongside sibling groups of two or more.

As an organisation, we are committed to equality and diversity. We welcome applicants from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and seek to place our children from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic heritage in homes which celebrate their ethnicity. We are dedicated to addressing issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement and we stand against all forms of racism; whether overt, insidious, individual, or institutional.

Gail Spray, Head of Service at Adoption Counts:

Adoption Counts wants to hear from anyone who feels they could offer a child a nurturing and loving home. The Black communities are well known for their positive and altruistic view of adoption, family values, and strong community networks.

As well the life-changing and amazing experience of being an adoptive parent, our adopters will receive vital support and training to help them understand the experiences their children may have faced. We also have support groups for adults and activities days for the children to meet others who have been adopted.

Adopting a child is a transformative and exciting experience, but we understand that it can be daunting at times. Rest assured, we will be by your side through everything, guiding you through the process from the moment you enquire to the day your child joins your family and beyond.
